I’m going to write a book!

It’s with equal parts exhilaration and trepidation that I’m announcing that I’m writing a book!

Marketing Strategy for Museums: A Practical Guide will be published by Routledge, part of the Taylor & Francis Group, in winter 2023 – spring 2024.

It's a huge honour and I can’t wait to share my passion for marketing and the role it can play in sustaining and developing museums.

Marketing is often a maligned and misunderstood topic. This book aims to dispel some myths, break down the jargon and provide useful models, tips and examples of how museums can efficiently and successfully plan and deliver marketing.

I hope the book will encourage readers to reflect on their practice, inspire them and boost the confidence of those responsible for planning and delivering marketing activities, enabling them to make smarter decisions on how to use limited resources.

Marketing Strategy for Museums will be aimed at practitioners and professionals working in museums with responsibility for and/or interest in marketing or audience development, whether as staff, trustees or volunteers; and will also be of relevance to students of museum studies and heritage management.

This announcement is the result of months of behind the scenes work of research, proposals, feedback and contracts, and 20 years of me working in and studying marketing. I’m now looking forward to plunging into more research, reflection and reaching out to people working in museum marketing across the world to chat over the next year as the book takes shape.
